Q: What can you do for me?

A: Facing the breakdown of a relationship is extremely difficult for everyone involved. Not only will you be dealing with the emotional issues that arise at this time, but you will also have questions and concerns about whether this is the right time to divorce or separate, how you will deal with your finances if you separate and the effect that this will have on any children involved.

I have been advising clients in this situation for over ten years. I regularly deal with situations where the financial situation is complicated by the involvement of family companies or trusts and the difficult decisions that have to be made regarding children.

Q: What makes you different from other divorce lawyers?

A: Not everyone considering a divorce or separation wants to embark on court proceedings. I am trained in collaborative law, which involves a commitment by all the parties involved not to go to court and to resolve matters in a series of meetings. If this is not suitable, then I also have extensive experience of court based proceedings and advising clients in negotiating settlements.

Q: What do your clients say about you?

It is important to develop a relationship of trust with your legal adviser, and I regularly find that clients I have previously advised consult me again for further advice on issues that arise following their divorce or to deal with new issues that have arisen in new relationships.

A client noted that she was “pleasantly surprised how caring and concerned Nicola was with me.”

Q: What involvement do you have in the local Leeds community?

A: While I have worked in Leeds for over ten years, I am originally from and continue to live in Halifax. I have a strong network of professional contacts in the Yorkshire area and further afield, mainly due to my involvement in Resolution, an association of family lawyers that promotes a non-confrontational approach to the resolution of family problems.

Q: What else should I know about you?

A: I have a strong commitment to family law and resolving family disputes. I believe very strongly in building an open and honest relationship with clients, which provides them with the support they need from a lawyer during a very difficult time.

I was listed as a key individual in family and matrimonial law in Chambers UK 2011, and am considered to have an excellent reputation for being “a level headed lawyer who develops good relationships with clients”.
