Dr Janet Reibstein is a psychologist, an educator and a researcher/clinician with a particular specialisation in working with and writing about couple and family relationships.
She is a professor in the School of Psychology at the University of Exeter (half-time) and was formerly an affiliated lecturer at the University of Cambridge, where she was also a psychological consultant to Kings College. She co-directs the training in family and couples therapy for mental health professionals at the University of Exeter, as well as teaching graduates and postgraduates.
Dr Reibstein trains family solicitors, particularly around issues to do with divorce and its psychology, as well as executives and teams in Fortune 500 companies, emerging high tech firms, governmental and non-profit agencies.
Her long-established clinical practice has included supervision, training and both brief and long-term psychotherapy, psychological assessment and consultation on clinical issues.
She is the author of a number of books, which include her research on various aspects of relationships, as well as contributing to numerous publications, both scholarly and in the popular press. She is a contributing editor for Psychologies Magazine and writes for
both the national and international press, including leading articles
for most of the broadsheet newspapers in the UK. She has broadcast on
both television and radio internationally, including as a principal BPS
spokesperson on relationships and related matters, and is widely quoted
in the national media. An award-winning five-part documentary series, Love Life (broadcast in March 1997 on Channel 4) was based on her clinical work and research.
Her private practice is based mainly in central London, although she also sees clients in the west country, at her base in Exeter.
