Can I divorce in England? >> England and other closely related jurisdictions

There are special arrangements between the jurisdiction of England and Wales and the jurisdictions of other closely related jurisdiction – Scotland, Northern Ireland, Jersey, Guernsey, Alderney, Sark and the Isle of Man.

These provisions mean that an English court must stay divorce proceedings brought in England if the other person applies for a stay on the basis that there are already divorce proceedings in existence in a related jurisdiction.
