Mills & Reeve children law team contribute to International Comparative Legal Guide - Family Law 2023

Described as a “masterful run through on the latest in children law”, Mills & Reeve children lawyers Zoe Fleetwood, Rose-Marie Drury, Amy Starnes and consultant, mediator and parenting co-ordinator Claire Molyneux were delighted to contribute the chapter “International Child Law: A New Landscape and Lived Reality” in this year’s International Comparative Legal Guide – Family Law 2023.

The Guide is a free-to-access e-book dealing with international family law, providing helpful practical insights into legal systems as diverse as the Isle of Man to Indonesia.

The chapter written by our specialist children lawyers highlights some current themes for international families:

  • The lasting effects of the Covid pandemic on international justice systems, the increasing digitisation of family law and the evidential benefits of instant communication
  • The continuing impact of Brexit
  • The deepening understanding by court systems of domestic abuse
  • Enhanced judicial and government-led asylum processes
  • The protections offered to families through various international Conventions
  • The impact of the war in Ukraine on surrogacy arrangements

Over 20 international contributors have shared their knowledge and experience to help fellow family law practitioners navigate what are often complex and technical legal issues in cross-border cases.

The Guide is available here and you can read the chapter “International Child Law: A New Landscape and a Lived Reality” here.
