New pre-action protocol for mediation meetings launched

23/02/2011   By:

Nigel Shepherd of Mills & Reeve LLP appears on BBC 5 Live to comment on the Government's launch of the new pre-action protocol for mediation assessment and information meetings.

Today the Government formally launched the new pre-action protocol for mediation assessment and information meetings. From 6 April people wishing to issue most family proceedings at court will first have to have a meeting with a mediator to explore whether mediation might be a suitable alternative to court.

The Mills & Reeve family team is a strong supporter of mediation and a number in our team are qualified mediators. Mediation is only one of the alternatives to litigation and works best in partnership with independent legal advice.
