Mills & Reeve’s Full Scale Ahead report highlights issues faced by business owners on divorce

Mills & Reeve asked the owners of 500 medium sized businesses (50-500 employees/ £200m+ turnover) to tell us about the challenges they face in becoming the next generation of world-leading large enterprises. The result, a 28-page Full Scale Ahead report, produced some interesting findings, particularly for business owners who are going through divorce or those who are concerned about protecting their business in the event of divorce.

Her overall award remains £17.5 million as originally ordered by the High Court. See below for the updated story.* You may have spotted headlines such as "Oil tycoon who used African law to fight £17 million divorce wins landmark case to slash payout to wife by £9 million" in the press last weekend. These all concerned a particularly high-profile decision in a Court of Appeal case called Petrodel Resources Limited v Prest. The case will have a real impact on business owners who are divorcing and will likely mean that wealth protection measures such as pre-nuptial agreements and family investment companies will become more important than ever.
